My family went to church at Holy Trinity, and we were in that area quite often. Even though I was further on the east side, but we had reason to come this way. And the more that you have access in a certain area, you open up your world. We didn't just stay in the neighborhood. But we were connected to-
Almeta
The neighborhoods were connected and that was a time when we talked about this last week. We talked about how Rochester, everything you needed was within the city limits, downtown and spreading out into the different communities. And now, if you want to get anything worth anything, you got to get in your car and get on the expressway.
Martha
Because remember Almeta, our movies were even downtown. The Loew's, the Paramount.
Almeta
Oh, I used to love to go to the movies.
Martha
The Grand. I forgot that other one. That we used to go and watch Hopalong Cassidy on Saturday.
Almeta
Not the one on Plymouth Avenue and West Main.
Martha
Yeah, right in there. And the World Theater over on Hudson Avenue.
Almeta
Oh, and, and don't forget the drive in.
Martha
The drive in. Oh, I love drive ins. Isn't there one now out near Scottsdale or something? Kings Highway.
Max-Yamil
Really? There was one right there?
Martha
Yeah, we had the Big Burger, whatever the name was, and on the roller skates.
Max-Yamil
Yeah, ours is like in Avon or something like that.
Martha
Oh, in Avon? I think it is. Cause they recently had something right before the snow and you could get a carload for like $25 or something like that.
Almeta
And then again, there was a Roller Palace you could roller skate.
Martha
Oh girl, I used to roller skate up a storm. That's where I saw Gladys Knight.
Almeta
Oh, and the bowling alley on North Street.
Martha
Yeah. Yep, that was right down the street from us. Yeah.
Tracie
I learned to roller skate backwards before forwards. I used to roller skate. Oh, my God. I said, I'm going to do that. I'm going to do that. Forget about forwards. Yeah. Love roller skating.
Almeta
Look, girl, I was always this coordinated.
Martha
Gymnasium. You remember the gymnasium?
Almeta
Not the Natatorium.
Martha
The Natatorium! Right. Look at the kids looking at me.
Almeta
And you didn't have to pay, you just took your little towel, and your swimsuit and shorts, and you just go with kids and swim at the Natatorium on Saturday.
Max-Yamil
My Y membership is like $25.
Almeta
It was free!
Martha
Yeah, it was free, free, free, free, free. Yeah. That's the way it was back then, and we're a little bit older than Tracie. Tracie is the baby in the bunch.
Almeta
Well, that's okay. You still look good.
Tracie
I entered my golden years.
Almeta
Thank you so much, Tracy. And again, Martha, you are a gold mine. you're like the earth angel. Seriously, I'm not blowing smoke up your butt.
Martha
I'll take it.
Almeta
You are the earth angel that dropped in. In this initiative, exactly when we need.
